Driving car in the heavy rain - How deep can your car go into water
Yesterday my car swim through water on Gurgaon road, and i reached home without facing problem on the road (Not all lucky one). It is too embracing when your car gets stopped in the middle of flooded road and you need to get out of your car.You would look like you prepare to swim on the road wearing office dress (just joking). Today morning when i was ready for office, my car won't start. I asked nearest car mechanics available to check up my car.
To my surprise, he did something which i think better I can do it myself.
He did strike to a pipe and car ignition started working. He explained that it is very common to have smaller particles to block ignition system when car has gone deep into water during flood.
 (area to clean ignition system)
Here are some troubleshooting tips.
The car won't start on rainy days
Check inside the distributor cap for dampness. If you find moisture, get some mechanic's solvent from your friendly service station — they use it to clean car parts — or buy an aerosol can of it at an auto supply store. To evaporate any dampness inside the distributor cap, turn the cap upside down and pour or spray some solvent into it. Swish it around and pour it out. Then dry the cap as best you can with a clean, lint-free rag and replace the cap.
Use only clean solvent; even a tiny speck of dirt can foul the points. gasoline won't do because a spark can ignite gasoline fumes and cause an explosion or a fire.
 (Also check battery)
The engine won't start after water got into the engine compartment
If you car died after the water got in the engine compartment, this could be because some of the ignition components could be short-circuited by water.
Often this happens when a tune up hasn't been done on the car in a long time. Take or tow your car to a mechanic, he can check it. Often a simple blow drying the engine can help if there is no other damage. Your mechanic could also recommend a tune-up to prevent this from happening.
