Car Interior Maintenance

A clean and tidy car interior makes you feel great while driving. In addition, a clean interior ensures good health of the passengers. Even after several thousand miles of driving you can still retain impressive interiors with proper maintenance. If you make it a routine cleaning of the car interiors, a thorough cleaning will just take an hour to finish. There are a few basics you need to learn regarding the cleaning of car interiors.

More than anything else, you need to be very careful while using water to clean the interiors since electrical components might get into risk if water gets into them. In the same manner, you need to exercise enough care to see that water used for cleaning the car interiors does not get inside your car seats or below the carpet. Water stagnant in these parts might emit damp and moldy smell besides acting as corrosive agents to erode the parts. Make it a point to dry the car interiors properly after every cleaning.

While cleaning the car interiors, first remove the floor mat. Use the vacuum cleaner to clean the seats, pedal area and center console. Floor mats can be cleaned separately outside the car and then placed inside.

Soft paint brush will work great on dashboard, doors and central console. Exercise care not to damage the car parts like vents, knobs and sticking parts. Since leather seats might get damaged very easily, avoid scratching them with the hose of the vacuum cleaner. While cleaning the car seat leathers, use the cleaning products after testing them first on small areas. Some products might leave the leather slippery or sticky. Make use of clean and soft cotton towels and avoid paper towels that might scratch the surface.

It is better not to use any cleaning products on leather wrapped steering wheels since it might cause discomfort while steering your car.

For cleaning the central console, plastic parts and dashboard, soft, moist cloth will do best. If there are stains, you can use a minimum quantity of laundry detergent. Little amount of polish spread uniformly with a soft brush will prove good on plastic parts.
