Spark plug is the device that provides electricity to
the ignition chamber of the engine that helps the car to start up. Spark plug
is one of the smallest units of the car but is plays vital role in car
composition and working of car. There exist a lot of discussion about spark
plugs regarding its installation, working and issues.
Before you install spark plug, allow the engine to
cool down and disconnect all the wires and cables of the car, apply grease to
loosen the plug so that it become little bit moist so that can be handled in
future properly, check the gap between the spark plug if exist adjust it
in spark plug
- · Deposition of black carbon on the
insulator or electrodes can be result of cold spark plug, extreme handling of
driving like stop and run or bad air filters, get it clean or replace it.
- · Deposition of oil make it shiny and wet
this is the result of bad oil filters, oil leaks or thick oil effect over it,
it needs a makeover replace it as soon as possible.
- · Deposition of brown layer on the spark
plug is the result of oil additive and lead from fuel it happens when spark
plug is hot and as it cool downs it makes it a coat and cleaning of it becomes
useless, urgent replacement needed in this condition.
- · Erosion on the insulator is the result
of mishandling and ignorance of spark plug replacement or it may be result of
extra fuel and oil additive over it as a result misfiring, bad start up of car or
hesitation on acceleration will happen, surely is not a extra heat up problem.
So go get the new spark plugs installed in your car.
- · Misfiring in spark plug due to any of
the reason can easily damage the engine, while replacement of spark plug make
sure you are handling it properly and heat up issues should be resolved first.
- · Melted central electrode of spark plug
may result from pre ignition, over ignition or abnormal combustion which leads
to bad timing in engine startup and misfiring so check this before you repair
any spark plug.
Few tips for spark plug replacement always
kept in mind.
- · Replacement of spark plugs should be
done in complete sets only, because the entire set replacement will bring
benefit to the system as a single change would lead to more impairment of it.
- · Grease up the spark plug while changing
it, it’s good for future removal of spark plug as it will moist the surface and
allow the activity on it.
- · Always allow the spark plug get cool
before doing any change, repair or replacement as the heat of it may damage the
